Chuck Winters originally came to BG intending to play football, however by the time he graduated, he was among the top
lacrosse players in the nation. He earned three varsity letters at Bowling Green, and also earned honorable mention All-
American honors after a 17-goal senior season.
He was named to the All-Midwest second team as a sophomore and junior, then was honored on the first team as a senior, as the
Falcons finished the 1969 season at 11-1. He was selected to play in the North-South game after his senior year at BG.
After his playing career had ended, Winters stayed at BG as a graduate assistant coach in 1970 before taking an assistant
coaching position at SUNY-Cortland. Two years later, he began a nine year head coaching run at SUNY-Cortland, which included
national championships in 1973 and 1975. Chuck has also served as an associate athletic director at Army, and as athletic
director at Gettysburg College, a position he held for 13 years. He also served on the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Rules Committee as
the secretary-rules editor.
In 2000, Winters was enshrined in the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
