Lori Albers burst onto the MAC women's basketball scene almost as soon as she stepped on the Bowling Green campus,
capturing MAC Freshman-of-the-Year honors in 1990. She finished ninth in the MAC in steals and 10th in rebounding her freshman year.
The Lady Falcons won the MAC Championship and were invited to the first of three NCAA Tournament appearances during Albers'
stay at BG.
While she was forced to sit out the 1990-91 season after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery before the season, Lori came
back to earn All-MAC Honorable Mention in 1991-92, ranking 12th in the MAC in scoring and fourth in field-goal percentage. She
continued to improve into her junior season, finishin fourth in the MAC in scoring and seventh in rebounding, and was named to
the All-MAC First Team. She was also named the MVP of the MAC Tournament in Columbus as Bowling Green won both the regular
season and tournament titles. Albers led the way in the title game against Kent State, scoring 34 points and grabbing 15
rebounds in the victory. Bowling Green hosted the University of Florida in an NCAA Tournament first round game in Anderson
Arena, and Albers stayed hot, scoring 23 points before fracturing her wrist with eight minutes left in the game.
As a senior in 1993-94, Albers missed seven games early after reinjuring her knee in practice, but went on to place on the
second team All-MAC roster, and was named to the MAC All-Tournament team for a second straight year. The Falcons won 20
straight games after her return in early January, including another MAC regular season and tournament title. Despite missing so
much time, Albers finished 12th in the league in scoring and ranked among the MAC's top ten in rebounding, field goal and free
throw percentage, assists and steals. Again the Falcons hosted an NCAA Tournament game, this time falling to a strong second
half by the Creighton Lady Jays at Anderson Arena.
In the four years she was healthy, BGSU was a combined 97-23 overall and 60-8 in the MAC. Albers finished her career with totals of
1424 points, 776 rebounds, 249 assists and a school record 241 steals which stood for 10 years until it was broken by Lindsay
Austin in March 2004. Lori ended her BG career ranked third in scoring, fifth in rebounding and third in career field goal
percentage, and was in the top ten on a total of 10 BGSU career lists.
